The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of misleading the Inspector General of Police, Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno.
The NDC demands a re-run of parliamentary elections in 62 polling stations in Ablekuma North. They claim the current results are not credible and need a transparent process.
Recently, the IGP urged the EC to provide a clear plan for finalizing results in the area. The NDC argues that the EC is unprepared and acting unlawfully by using scanned pink sheets instead of original documents.
On May 10, Mahdi Gibril, Deputy Director of Elections for the NDC, spoke on Channel One’s Newsroom. He said they have repeatedly contacted the EC for clarification but received no response.
Gibril mentioned that they met with the EC on March 13, 2025, to discuss concerns about scanned documents. Follow-up letters were sent on April 18 and April 30, but there was still no reply.
He stated, “We’re waiting for a response from the EC. They know their actions are illegal.” He added that they do not trust the documents used by the EC.
Gibril emphasized that a re-run is necessary where original pink sheets are missing. “What will they use to collate results? We only accept a re-run where there are no pink sheets,” he said.
The Electoral Commission has not publicly responded to these allegations yet. Efforts to finalize collation in January 2025 faced disruptions due to unauthenticated pink sheets and security issues at the collation center.
