NDC Executive: Linda Ocloo forced MCE confirmation in Weija-Gbawe

An executive member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Weija-Gbawe has made serious allegations. They claim that Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, pressured party members. This pressure was to confirm Felix Odartey Lamptey as Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), despite initial concerns.

Lamptey received 16 out of 19 votes in a second confirmation round. This happened just hours after he was rejected earlier. He was sworn in by Minister Ocloo following this vote.

The anonymous executive spoke on Citi Eyewitness News on May 12. They stated that Lamptey did not achieve the required two-thirds majority in the first vote. The Regional Minister and other officials then intervened, urging members to support him again.

The source described this pressure as coercive. Members were reportedly asked to disclose their votes, which is unusual for such processes. "From the start, there were concerns about the nominee," they said.

They noted that Lamptey needed either 50% or two-thirds to be confirmed but failed to do so initially. The regional minister and executives allegedly coerced them into reaffirming their support.

The executive expressed dissatisfaction with Lamptey's appointment. They stated, "As a government appointee, I must follow what party elders say."

They added, "We are at the grassroots and know what is good for us." The executive concluded that Lamptey was not someone they wanted as MCE.
