Some Members of Parliament from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are worried about ongoing power outages. They say these outages are affecting their constituencies badly. They emphasize the urgent need for coordinated action to restore stable electricity.
During a meeting with the Energy Committee, several MPs spoke out. Albert Tetteh Nyarkotey from Yilo Krobo highlighted severe impacts on local economies. He noted that power outages can last up to three days in his area.
Nyarkotey said, “It has affected businesses and essential services like hospitals and schools.” He mentioned that both universities and hospitals face disruptions due to the outages.
Yao Gomado from Akan described the situation as untenable. He reported multiple power interruptions in a single evening. “You may have power for about an hour, then it cuts off repeatedly,” he explained.
Gomado added that this causes significant inconvenience for residents and businesses. He expressed concern for cold storage businesses, saying their products spoil during outages.
Richard Kwami Sefe from Anlo also reported frequent power cuts. He stated that power goes off every three hours, disrupting daily life. “The light will trip and come back in two minutes,” he explained.
The MPs collectively called for immediate action from all stakeholders in the power sector. They want to stabilize electricity supply and reduce hardship for their constituents.
