NHIA board appointee part of blackmail syndicate tied to Kevin Taylor

On a recent episode of Good Evening Ghana, Okatakyie Afrifa made surprising claims. He discussed the influence of US-based commentator Kevin Taylor on Ghana’s opposition party, the NDC.

Afrifa spoke with host Paul Adom-Otchere about Taylor's alleged involvement in appointments. He claimed that Taylor holds a warrant in Ghana and influenced a key appointment at the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).

Afrifa described this position as reserved for Taylor. He said it was meant for someone he trusts, calling it the “Kevin Taylor effect.”

He also claimed that the woman appointed had received power of attorney from Taylor. This occurred during a private meeting with some NDC leaders. Afrifa suggested that due diligence was ignored because it was “Kevin Taylor’s appointment.”

Additionally, he mentioned that Taylor visited Ghana twice since the NDC's electoral win. During these visits, he was reportedly “heavily protected.” Afrifa argued that Taylor's influence has left some state officials unable to act without his input.

“It’s as though nothing works unless Kevin Taylor says it,” he stated. He even claimed that the President takes actions based on Taylor's support.

If true, these claims raise serious concerns about political accountability and shadow governance. They highlight the influence of individuals operating outside official structures, especially those not legally allowed in the country.
