The Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Mohammed Abdul-Salam, has warned the public about lotto fraudsters. He specifically cautioned against scams on social media. Fraudsters often claim to have leaked winning numbers for a fee. This deceitful practice has victimized many people.
Mr. Abdul-Salam spoke in Kwahu, Nkwatia during the Easter Community Draw on April 19. He said scammers use images of NLA staff to gain trust. They promise unsuspecting individuals that they can make them rich with insider information. “If anyone claims they can make you rich, think twice,” he advised.
He compared it to betting on a car number; no one can manipulate the lottery numbers. The NLA’s games are purely based on chance and meant for development.
The NLA organizes Community Draws to engage with the public directly. Mr. Abdul-Salam emphasized their transparency during these events. The draw machines are moved from Brennan Hall to local communities for public viewing.
This helps dispel misconceptions about manipulated draws, he added. He also urged players to practice responsible gaming and avoid addiction. It is important to ensure minors do not participate in gambling activities.
Mr. Abdul-Salam thanked several dignitaries who attended the event, including Mr. Bernard Appiah Gyebi and Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III. The National Weekly Lotto Draw featured popular presenters like Akwasi Boadi Akrobeto and Nancy Awuradwoa Darko.
The winning numbers were 44, 27, 48, 85, and 90. Patrons who answered questions received souvenirs as prizes.
In line with tradition, the NLA Good Causes Foundation donated items to local chiefs during Easter festivities. Deputy Director-General Eric Yeboah Wadie led this initiative, presenting water packs and drinks to Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III and Nana Boamah Ayiripe III.
The chiefs expressed gratitude for celebrating Easter with them and congratulated Wadie on his new role as Deputy Director-General. They wished him success in bringing honor to his community.
The Arts and Culture Pillar of the NLA Good Causes Foundation supports projects that protect Ghanaian cultural events and educational programs.
