Joseph Ade Coker, former Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NDC, has criticized the NPP's protest. He called it a “childish” and pointless political stunt.
On Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily, he defended the government's actions. He stated that due process is being followed in this matter. President John Dramani Mahama is committed to upholding judicial provisions.
Coker said, “All that they did yesterday was childish.” He emphasized that nothing will sway President Mahama or the NDC from following constitutional rules.
His remarks came after a protest on May 5 by opposition parties led by the NPP. They presented three petitions to the Presidency, Parliament, and Judiciary. The petitions urged President Mahama to reverse Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo's suspension.
Justice Torkornoo was suspended on April 22, 2025. This followed a prima facie case against her based on petitions from Daniel Ofori, Ayamga Akolgo, and Shining Stars of Ghana. A five-member committee is now investigating these allegations under Article 146(6) of the 1992 Constitution.
