The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is asking members to submit proposals for constitutional amendments.
General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong announced this in a statement. Proposals can be sent to the Party Headquarters or the Constitutional Amendment Committee.
He stated that the party wants reforms to address critical issues. The deadline for submissions is Friday, May 9, 2025.
These proposals will be reviewed at an Extraordinary National Delegates Conference in July 2025. Members can email their proposals to [email protected] or send them through the Committee's Secretary.
In related news, former presidential candidate Kwabena Agyei Agyepong has made suggestions for the NPP. He believes the party should focus on its presidential primaries first.
On April 17, 2025, he submitted a memorandum with proposed reforms. These aim to promote fairness and internal cohesion within the party.
Agyepong wants Article 13(9) removed from the constitution. This article requires a special electoral college to limit presidential aspirants to five candidates.
He argues that this process is undemocratic and open to manipulation. The current structure of this college has fewer than one thousand members, which undermines democratic fairness.
