Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has dismissed the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) criticism of President John Mahama’s handling of petitions seeking the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo.
His response follows concerns raised by Manhyia MP, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, who argued that the process could be politically motivated and set a bad precedent.
However, Kwakye Ofosu insisted that the NPP lacks the moral authority to challenge the government, referencing former President Akufo-Addo’s removal of the Electoral Commission Chair during his tenure.
He maintained that President Mahama is acting within constitutional limits, in consultation with the Council of State, and urged the NPP to point out any legal violations instead of making broad allegations.
Kwakye Ofosu reiterated that all public institutions, including the judiciary, are subject to scrutiny, and objections based on perceived political motives should not undermine constitutional processes.
