President John Dramani Mahama has raised concerns over the composition of Ghana’s Judiciary, alleging that the previous administration deliberately appointed NPP-aligned judges to avoid future accountability.
Speaking at a meeting with the Ghana Bar Association on March 26, 2025, he emphasized that while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been critical of the Judiciary, his government holds no hostility toward the legal fraternity.
Mahama pointed to surveys indicating public distrust in the Judiciary, stressing the need for reforms to restore confidence and ensure impartiality in handling corruption cases. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working with the legal community to uphold the rule of law.
The President previously accused the NPP government of strategically increasing judicial appointments to influence rulings, stating, “The Judiciary has been packed with NPP-inclined judges.”
He urged stakeholders to work towards a fair and independent justice system.
