Nana Moses, the former Vice Chairman of the NPP in China, is calling for new leadership in the Ahafo Region. He warns that without urgent action, the party may face further electoral decline.
His comments come after a concerning trend in electoral performance. In the 2024 elections, NPP’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, received only 46.07% of votes. This was lower than John Mahama's 52.46%. "This marks a total failure and disappointment," Nana Moses said.
He highlighted a troubling trajectory in support for the party:
- In 2016, President Nana Akufo-Addo won with 54.07%.
- In 2020, he increased this to 55.04%.
- By 2024, support had dropped under current regional executives.
On the parliamentary side, NPP held four out of six seats in 2016. Now they have only one seat left after losing Tano South, Asunafo North, and Asutifi North to the NDC. "Benjamin Sekyere, Evans Bobie, and Patrick Banor lost woefully," he noted.
Nana Moses believes these losses stem from current leadership's failure to energize grassroots support and rebuild structures. “The data from 2016 to 2024 shows a troubling picture,” he warned.
He urged party delegates and financiers to seek new leadership that can reverse this decline. “The NPP needs a leader who will rebuild grassroots structures and restore confidence,” he stated.
Nana Moses emphasized the NPP’s legacy of development in Ahafo should continue under inspiring leadership.
“The time for change is now,” he reiterated. Delegates must choose a leader who can reclaim lost constituencies and secure future victories for the NPP.
