Political risk analyst Dr. Theo Acheampong has noted frustration within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The party's "Thank You Tour" has revealed deep-seated resentment among its members.
Acheampong spoke on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday. He said the tour was meant to appreciate supporters after the 2024 elections. However, it instead highlighted ongoing discontent at both grassroots and leadership levels.
He pointed out that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia leads the tour. Many party members are unhappy with how national affairs were managed during their time in power.
Acheampong stated, "What we are seeing at the top shows pain and anger." He added that this dissatisfaction affects the party’s fortunes.
Recent events, like a deleted social media post by Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, indicate internal divisions. This post hinted at a possible future leadership bid.
Acheampong explained, "The fact that others suggest a run shows there’s still anger." He believes change is needed but not superficial fixes; core issues must be addressed.
He emphasized that the NPP should take responsibility for its shortcomings. They need to apologize to Ghanaians, not just their party members.
The tensions raised during the tour question the party’s cohesion before future elections. If ignored, this discontent could weaken the NPP's ability to regroup effectively.
