NPP suspends “Thank You Tour” to participate in “Save the Judiciary” demo

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has suspended its "Thank You Tour." This decision allows the party to join the "Save the Judiciary Demo" on May 5, 2025.

The suspension follows concerns about President John Dramani Mahama's recent actions. He suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo. This move has drawn criticism and accusations of undermining judicial independence.

The protest is organized by five political parties. They aim to challenge what they see as an attack on judicial autonomy. Judicial independence is vital for Ghana's democracy.

Henry Nana Boakye, the NPP's National Organiser, shared this news with Asaase News. He stated that the demonstration is now their main focus.

Nana Boakye emphasized that this event matters for all Ghanaians. It is crucial for the future of democratic institutions in Ghana.

He said, “We intend to suspend the tour so everyone can participate.” He added that this issue transcends party lines; it’s about fighting for Ghanaians and democracy.

Nana Boakye welcomed support from the Minority in Parliament. The Minority Leader strongly backs the demonstration.

This united front sends a clear message to Mahama’s administration. Any interference with the judiciary will not be tolerated.

The "Save the Judiciary Demo" will be a pivotal moment in politics. Five parties are coming together to demand judicial independence and defend democracy in Ghana.

The NPP’s commitment shows its determination to uphold democratic values for all citizens.
