NPP will return to power in 2028 – Bawumia

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is a 2024 presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He believes the NPP will return to power in the 2028 elections. He shared his views during an event in London.

Dr. Bawumia is confident about the NPP's chances. He cited political history and trends in Ghana as favorable for their comeback. “I believe that in 2028, NPP is going to come back into government,” he stated.

He noted that first-time presidential candidates often struggle to win elections in Ghana. This trend could benefit the NPP if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) fields a new candidate in 2028. Ghanaians tend to prefer candidates who have run before.

Dr. Bawumia also criticized the NDC’s performance while in government. He argued that their campaign promises regarding cost of living are now discredited. “In opposition, they made so many promises,” he said, highlighting how it’s easier to make claims from that position.

He pointed out rising food prices and costs of materials as evidence of misleading claims by the NDC. “They said they would reduce kenkey prices,” he remarked, questioning if anyone has seen such reductions. Prices are actually increasing, which he believes will expose their false promises over time.
