Mary Mumuni, the President’s nominee for District Chief Executive (DCE) in Nadowli/Kaleo, has been rejected.
Assembly members voted on Monday, April 28. Mumuni received 24 "yes" votes and 28 "no" votes. She needed a two-thirds majority to be approved.
This rejection marks the second DCE nominee turned down in the Upper West Region. On April 17, Shaibu Adamu was also rejected for Wa East District.
Now, Nadowli/Kaleo lacks a substantive DCE until further action from the President. The President can renominate Mumuni or choose new candidates for another vote.
Despite these setbacks, most confirmations in the Upper West Region have been successful. Nine out of eleven Municipal and District Assemblies have approved their nominees.
Residents of Nadowli/Kaleo and Wa East must wait for updates from the Presidency. Local governance structures in these districts remain incomplete.
