New govt appointees need training on public conduct – Effia MP

Isaac Boamah-Nyarko, the MP for Effia, has made a call. He wants mandatory training for newly appointed government officials. This training is crucial to help them understand their roles better.

His comments follow a recent controversy involving Sammy Gyamfi. Gyamfi is the Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board. He was seen on video giving U.S. dollars to evangelist Nana Agradaa.

On Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily, Boamah-Nyarko acknowledged Gyamfi's public apology. However, he emphasized the need for structured orientation for appointees.

He stated, “I believe in training and capacity building for new appointees.” He noted that many have not served in public office before and need guidance.

Boamah-Nyarko stressed that appointees should learn about leadership and ethics. This knowledge helps them conduct themselves properly in public spaces.

Larry Dogbey, Managing Editor of Herald newspaper, supported this idea. He highlighted the importance of reviving formal induction programs for public officials.

Dogbey explained that transitioning from campaigning to governance requires a change in behavior. “GIMPA had a program in the past for all public officials,” he said.

He added that even MPs attended this program when they took office. “We need to bring it back,” he urged.

Dogbey pointed out that political behavior differs from governance conduct. After elections, officials must adopt proper leadership styles.

“Sometimes, even the way you smile becomes an issue,” he noted. Training can help address these concerns effectively.

In related news, some have called for Sammy Gyamfi’s suspension over his actions. However, others consider these calls baseless.
