No more buying of hampers with gov't funds - Mahama

President John Mahama has introduced a strict Code of Conduct. This code bans the use of government funds for hampers or gifts.

The policy took effect on Monday, May 5, 2025. It is part of the administration's 120-Day Social Contract. The goal is to restore fiscal discipline and ethical governance.

The guidelines prohibit all government appointees from using public funds for gifts. This includes ministers, CEOs, and heads of institutions. They cannot use national budget funds or internally generated funds for this purpose.

President Mahama stated that the Code allows modest staff gifts only. These gifts are meant to recognize excellence or retirement.

During the launch, he emphasized that this Code is not just symbolic. He said it is an enforceable framework that will be strictly implemented.

"We are drawing a clear line against misuse of public resources," he declared.

The new regulations also limit gift acceptance by government appointees. They cannot accept any gifts from individuals or organizations with business before the state.

This move shows the Mahama administration's commitment to accountable governance. It aims to demonstrate this within the first 120 days in office.

The President promised to lead by example in following these new standards. After the launch, he donated two vehicles gifted to him back to the state’s pool.

This action aligns with his newly unveiled code of conduct for government appointees.
