Journalist Okatakyie Afrifa has been released after being detained by National Security operatives on Wednesday evening, shortly after completing his exams.

His arrest sparked widespread concern, with many questioning the necessity of the move.

Henry Nana Boakye, National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who was part of those who intervened for his release, described the incident as unjustified and an attack on press freedom.

Boakye expressed disappointment over what he sees as an increasing trend of security agencies targeting journalists under the pretext of investigations. He warned that if such actions persist, many more individuals could find themselves facing similar treatment simply for expressing their views. His remarks have intensified the ongoing debate about press freedom in Ghana.

The incident raises critical concerns about the balance between national security and freedom of expression.
