Vincent Ekow Assafuah, the MP for Old Tafo Constituency, has criticized Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang. He condemned her for returning to Ghana on a luxury chartered flight worth over $170,000.
Assafuah argued that this money could help solve urgent problems in the country. He pointed out that while students study by candlelight and hospitals lack supplies, the Vice President arrived on a VistaJet flight from London.
He stated that the $170,000 could have paid 250 striking university staff for a month. It could also have funded electricity for 50 Senior High Schools or bought 150,000 exercise books for basic schools.
The New Patriotic Party legislator expressed disappointment with the government's priorities. He said, “This isn’t leadership; it’s lootership in luxury.” He added that Ghanaians face more darkness, debt, and excuses under current leadership.
Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang returned from London on Thursday, May 23. She traveled there for medical treatment and was welcomed at the airport by several officials.
These included President John Dramani Mahama and First Lady Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama. The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church and family members were also present.
In her brief remarks, the Vice President thanked Ghanaians for their prayers. She expressed gratitude to her doctors and medical staff at UGMC. She also acknowledged support from President Mahama and his brother Ibrahim.
