One Village One Dam was not to solve irrigation problems – Agric Minister

Dr. Bryan Acheampong, the Minister for Food and Agriculture, defended the 'One Village, One Dam' (1V1D) policy amid criticism due to the ongoing drought affecting farmers.

He clarified that the 1V1D initiative, which focuses on constructing small dams to capture rainwater, was not intended to address irrigation needs.

According to Acheampong, while the policy has been successful in holding rainwater, it does not substitute for comprehensive irrigation systems required during prolonged dry spells.

He emphasized that irrigation involves large-scale water management, which is beyond the scope of the 1V1D program.
