Only 30 political appointees are at Jubilee House - President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to a lean government, revealing that only 30 political appointees currently serve at the Jubilee House. This, he said, aligns with his promise to cut government expenditure and enhance efficiency.

His statement comes in response to allegations by Damongo MP Samuel Abu Jinapor, who claimed the administration had exceeded its ministerial and presidential staff appointments.

Mahama dismissed the claims, noting that the previous government had 336 appointees at the presidency alone.

Speaking at the swearing-in of new ministers and deputy ministers, Mahama clarified that 27 of the appointees are presidential staffers, while three are directors of key government programs awaiting Council of State approval.

He assured that even with ongoing staff recruitment, the numbers would remain far lower than the previous administration’s.

The President also announced plans to submit the final list of four deputy ministers to complete his 60-minister target.

So far, 56 ministers have been approved by Parliament, a process Mahama described as the fastest in Ghana’s Fourth Republic. He expressed appreciation to Parliament for its cooperation in expediting the appointments.
