Joseph Osei-Owusu, former chairman of Parliament’s Appointments Committee, has criticized the hasty vetting process for three ministerial nominees under President John Mahama.
The notice, issued on January 9, 2025, allowed only four days before the January 13 vetting, which Osei-Owusu described as inadequate for meaningful public participation.
He argued that a minimum of one to two weeks was necessary to enable stakeholders and the public to voice concerns.
“The essence of a public hearing is to ensure public involvement, not just to conduct proceedings in public,” he stated.
Osei-Owusu called the process rushed and unnecessary, emphasizing the need for more deliberate engagement to uphold transparency and inclusivity.
