Our duty is to vet nominees, not to probe matters of contempt of Parliament- Dafeamekpor

South Dayi MP Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has called on the Appointments Committee of Parliament to refer Oliver Barker-Vormawor’s alleged contempt case to the Privileges Committee, emphasizing that the Committee should focus solely on vetting ministerial nominees.

His remarks follow Barker-Vormawor’s claim that members of the Appointments Committee demanded money from nominees for approval.

The allegation led to a heated debate on January 29, with Minority Chief Whip Frank Annor Dompreh even proposing a suspension of the vetting process, particularly for Defence Minister nominee Dr. Omane Boamah.

While vetting continued, Barker-Vormawor was summoned to appear before Parliament. Dafeamekpor argued that the Committee lacks the mandate to judge the matter and insisted that only the Privileges Committee should handle contempt cases.
