Less than 24 hours after Ghana's new president was sworn in, over 100 young men stormed the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), demanding the removal of appointees from the previous administration.
Sources at the refinery revealed the group insisted that no officials from the outgoing government should remain in office. Some also claimed they were seeking employment under the new administration.
TOR's security personnel intervened, calming the crowd and persuading them to leave without incident.
The refinery, with a processing capacity of 45,000 barrels per stream day, has been non-operational for months.
Efforts to secure a private partner to revive operations under the previous administration were unsuccessful, leaving the facility idle.
The incident underscores tensions surrounding the leadership transition.
