PNP pushes for implementation of Affirmative Action Law in Mother's Day message

The People’s National Party (PNP) has sent Mother’s Day greetings to Ghanaian mothers. They are also urging the government to implement the Affirmative Action Law and activate the Women’s Bank.

On Sunday, May 11, 2025, PNP Chairperson Janet Asana Nabla issued a statement. She expressed gratitude for mothers' sacrifices, stating they deserve national recognition.

Nabla noted that 24% of households are led by women. Additionally, married women contribute nearly 80% to child care and household needs. Metro TV cannot verify this data independently.

She criticized the government's lack of urgency in implementing the law. “The government’s lukewarm attitude makes it hard for ministries to act,” she said. She urged the government to fulfill its promise for at least 30% representation of women in all sectors.

The PNP also condemned how the government is handling the Women’s Bank initiative. They described it as “politicized, not people-centered.”

Nabla questioned how GHS 400 million allocated for the project would be used. “How many branches can that amount build, and where?” she asked.

The party suggested using GCB Bank and NIB to provide low-interest loans to women. They claim this plan was copied and politicized by the NDC.

“A future PNP government will implement our original plan,” Nabla stated. “We will use GCB and NIB to empower women sustainably.”

“The PNP sees you [women], values you, and will stand for you,” she concluded.
