President John Dramani Mahama has returned to Ghana after attending a High-Level Retreat on African Union (AU) Institutional Reforms in Nairobi, Kenya, from January 27 to 28, 2025.

Hosted by Kenyan President William Ruto, the retreat brought together African leaders to discuss reforms aimed at improving the AU’s effectiveness.

In his speech, President Mahama emphasized the importance of empowering Africa's youth and women and called for the AU’s financial independence.

He highlighted that with over 60% of Africa’s population under 25, empowering the younger generation and ensuring women’s participation in governance is vital.

He also stressed the need for the AU to reduce external dependency through the Kigali Decision.

His visit to Tanzania marked the conclusion of a three-nation tour that also included Angola.
