Prof Khalid: Gertrude Torkornoo should have resigned as CJ by now

Prof. Mahmud Sharif Khalid, an Economic Advisor at the Vice President's Office, has shared his opinion. He believes Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo should resign amid ongoing controversies. His comments come as discussions about her potential removal intensify. A poll by Global InfoAnalytics shows most Ghanaians want her removed.

On Channel One TV's The Big Issue on April 19, Prof. Khalid said, “If I were her, I would have honourably resigned.” He added that he wouldn’t want to create more drama.

Prof. Khalid noted that this situation is not new. He mentioned similar actions have happened in the past. “The precedent was set a very long time ago,” he stated.

He referenced Charlotte Osei’s removal as former Electoral Commissioner. Her position was comparable to that of a Court of Appeals judge. “That has happened before. It is nothing new under the sun,” he concluded.
