Suame MP John Darko has criticized the initial prosecution of activist Ama Governor and #FixTheCountry convener Oliver Barker-Vormawor, calling it politically unwise.
Speaking on Channel One TV, Darko, a legal practitioner, argued that some cases should never reach court, as they risk turning the accused into “martyrs.”
His comments follow the Attorney General’s recent withdrawal of charges against the activists, who participated in the 2024 anti-galamsey protest.
Darko suggested the government dropped the cases to avoid appearing biased toward National Democratic Congress (NDC) members.
While supporting the withdrawal, he advised Governor and Barker-Vormawor to uphold professional conduct, emphasizing their roles as legal practitioners.
