President John Dramani Mahama has launched a new Code of Conduct. This Code will guide political appointees in their professional behavior. The goal is to uphold high standards of integrity in public service.
The launch took place on Monday, May 5, 2025. It is part of a broader reform agenda for better governance. The government aims to strengthen transparency and accountability within the executive branch.
The term “Minister” in the Code includes more than just cabinet ministers. It also covers Deputy Ministers, Presidential Staffers, and Chief Executive Officers. Members of the Council of State and other political appointees are included as well.
President Mahama emphasized the core values expected from appointees. These values include integrity, honesty, impartiality, respect, and professionalism. He stated that all conduct must withstand public scrutiny.
The released section of the Code provides guidance for appointees' behavior. Appointees should be humble and open to constructive criticism. They must use respectful language, even when provoked.
Additionally, they should safeguard their office's integrity and reputation. Offensive or provocative behavior is not acceptable. Upholding personal dignity and avoiding rudeness is essential.
This Code is a key part of Mahama’s commitment to an ethical government.
