Religion and tribe did not play any role in NPP’s 2024 defeat – Bawumia

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, spoke about the 2024 election defeat. He stated that religion did not influence the party's loss.

Bawumia compared his votes to those of Christian Members of Parliament. He found that he received more votes than many Christian MPs. He called the idea that a Muslim candidate caused their defeat "propaganda."

The former Vice President expressed satisfaction with survey results. These surveys showed that religion and tribe were not factors in the NPP's defeat.

He recalled that during primaries, he was the only Muslim among ten candidates. Despite this, NPP members chose him as their presidential candidate.

Bawumia conducted data analysis to support his claims. The data showed he performed better than Christian parliamentary candidates in many areas.

He noted that if voters rejected him for being Muslim, his performance would be lower than theirs. He mentioned his friend Ntim Fordjour, a reverend, whom he outperformed despite Fordjour's support.

Bawumia emphasized there was no religious factor in the election outcome. Various institutions confirmed this through research findings.

He urged people not to let propaganda based on religion or tribe affect politics. He believes Ghana should remain united and work together for progress.
