Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the Minister of Interior, visited the Ghana National Fire Service headquarters in Tamale. He stated that improving the fire service is a top government priority. This includes enhancing working conditions and operational capacity. The goal is to ensure the service is well-equipped to serve effectively.
During his visit, the Minister condemned recent attacks on fire service personnel. He mentioned ongoing discussions with the Inspector General of Police (IGP). They are working to provide escorts for officers to ensure their safety while on duty.
The Minister also revealed talks with the National Insurance Commission. They aim to secure insurance coverage for fire service officers. This will offer them greater protection and support.
Hon. Muntaka cautioned against selling or buying lands owned by security services. He advised people to stop such practices immediately. He emphasized respecting ownership and boundaries of these lands.
The Regional Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service, ACFO II Franklin Masiku, shared challenges facing the region. These include office accommodation issues, resource constraints, and logistical difficulties. He thanked the Minister for his commitment to addressing these needs. This support will help them fulfill their mandate of safeguarding lives and property across the country.
