Sammy Gyamfi: Mahama won’t be controlled by NPP on Judicial nominations

Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He accused them of hypocrisy regarding their criticism of President John Dramani Mahama’s Supreme Court nominations.

Gyamfi defended President Mahama’s nomination of Justice Senyo Dzamefe. He argued that the NPP's reaction was unfounded and politically motivated. “The problem with the NPP is their duplicity and hypocrisy,” he stated.

He spoke on Joy News on May 3. Gyamfi highlighted Justice Dzamefe's long public service and legal experience as reasons for his appointment. Unlike others fast-tracked before, Dzamefe has served the judiciary for decades.

Justice Dzamefe worked as a State Attorney from 1984 to 1987. He was a member of the Regional Tribunal from 1989 to 1996. He served as a Circuit Court Judge from 1996 to 2000, then as a High Court Judge until 2010. From 2010 to 2025, he was a Court of Appeal Judge.

Gyamfi expressed concern about NPP members rejecting Mahama’s appointment. He noted that these same individuals once supported partisan judicial promotions. “You refused to promote fine legal minds and instead elevated juniors for political gains,” he asserted.

He described current appointments as steps toward fairness in the judiciary. Gyamfi emphasized that they aim to correct past wrongs and deliver justice to victims of injustice. “President Mahama will not be remote-controlled by you,” he concluded.
