Francis-Xavier Sosu, the MP for Madina, defended Sammy Gyamfi. Gyamfi is the acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board. His defense came after public backlash over a dollar gift.
The incident involved a viral video. In it, Mr. Gyamfi gives dollar notes to Nana Agradaa. She is a self-styled evangelist and former fetish priestess. This gesture has drawn widespread criticism.
Many people are questioning the appropriateness of this act. They are particularly concerned about the current economic situation in Ghana.
Mr. Gyamfi has apologized for his actions. However, he has been summoned by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah regarding the matter.
On May 12, Mr. Sosu posted on Facebook to support Gyamfi. He insisted that Gyamfi did nothing wrong and addressed critics directly.
“It is well,” he wrote. “You committed no crime. The haters are hurt.” He encouraged Gyamfi to stay focused and blessed despite the backlash.
