The Minority in Parliament has condemned Sammy Gyamfi. He is the National Communications Officer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board. This follows a viral video showing him giving bundles of US dollars to Evangelist Patricia Oduro, known as Agradaa.
At a press briefing, Dr. Tia Abdul Kabiru Mahama led the condemnation. He is the Member of Parliament for Walewale. The Minority called Gyamfi's actions a blatant display of financial recklessness. They said it betrays public trust during tough economic times for many Ghanaians.
Dr. Mahama noted that the video contradicts the NDC's claims about fiscal discipline and anti-corruption. It also reveals a troubling culture of impunity within the current administration. “Mr. Gyamfi’s actions are inconsistent with our party values,” he stated.
The Minority expressed concern over public outrage from the video. Many Ghanaians see it as an insult to those struggling economically. In response, they demand swift action against Gyamfi.
They want immediate disciplinary sanctions for breaching conduct codes and possibly violating financial regulations. They also call for a full investigation into where the dollar bundles came from and surrounding circumstances.
Additionally, they seek a public apology from the President. This should acknowledge the offense caused and reassure Ghanaians about ethical leadership.
The Minority stressed that failing to take these measures would worsen perceptions of elite impunity. It would also deepen public mistrust in the NDC government.
