=NPP’s Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, has criticized the Mahama-led government for failing to remove the COVID-19 levy in the 2025 budget, despite its campaign promise.
Speaking on Channel One TV, he questioned the government’s sincerity, demanding clarity on whether the levy would be scrapped.
He accused the administration of engaging in IMF-driven “theatrics” rather than addressing citizens’ real economic concerns.
Ahiagbah argued that keeping the levy contradicts earlier assurances and unnecessarily burdens Ghanaians.
Meanwhile, the Finance Minister announced during the 2025 budget presentation that VAT reforms, including the abolition of the COVID-19 levy, would be completed by the end of the year.
