Soldiers who have served 30 years and above to be retired in May – Defence Minister

Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah announced that all soldiers who have served for 30 years or more will be honourably released in May.

He shared this news in a Facebook post. The release aims to make room for new recruits in the army.

The soldiers being released are from the 1995/1996 group.

Dr. Omane Boamah stated that this decision follows legal guidelines. He emphasized that the NDC government will always adhere to the rules, including those of the Armed Forces Council Act.

In his statement, he said:

"All soldiers who have served for 30 years and above will be honourably released this month, May 2025."

This group joined the Ghana Armed Forces 30 years ago and has served with distinction.

As they retire, fresh recruits will join the Ghana Armed Forces. Dr. Omane Boamah praised these soldiers for their dedicated service and patriotism.

He noted that current terminology refers to non-officers, moving away from "Officers and Men." Officers are now categorized as Senior or Junior Officers.

He urged people to ignore any false information about the Ghana Armed Forces. Authentic updates will continue to be provided.

As Defence Minister under President John Dramani Mahama, he reaffirmed commitment to governing by established rules.

Congratulations were extended to the gallant 1995/96 cohort of soldiers.
