Former Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF) CEO, Solomon Asamoah, has denied claims made by Attorney-General Dr. Dominic Ayine. Dr. Ayine alleged that Asamoah fled to Senegal to avoid investigations into a $2 million payment for the Accra Sky Train project.

At a press conference on March 24, 2025, Dr. Ayine claimed Asamoah left Ghana on February 2. He said Asamoah traveled to South Africa before moving to Senegal. When contacted, Asamoah reportedly stated he would not return for three months. Dr. Ayine warned that if he failed to return, he could be tried in absentia.

Dr. Ayine also linked Asamoah to the $2 million payment. He stated it was made at the request of Prof. Ameyaw Ekumfi and Asamoah himself.

In response, Asamoah issued a statement denying the Attorney-General’s accusations as false and misleading. He said, “I categorically deny the false and incorrect allegations that I have gone into hiding in Senegal.”

Asamoah explained that he left Ghana on March 21 for scheduled board meetings planned well in advance. He noted that no government official had contacted him about any investigation before his departure.

However, he confirmed being contacted via WhatsApp by an official from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) on March 22. They agreed to an online meeting on March 26 to discuss any concerns.

Asamoah defended his tenure as CEO of GIIF, stating it grew from GHS 1.2 billion to GHS 5.2 billion by the end of 2023. This growth made it one of Africa’s top-performing infrastructure funds.

He emphasized his integrity throughout his career: “GIIF was profitable every year under my leadership.” The fund generated over GHS 2.5 billion in net profits during his time as CEO.

Asamoah assured us that he has nothing to hide and will cooperate fully with investigations upon returning to Ghana soon.
