Some residents of Abeka protest Patrick Boamah's victory in Okaikwei Central Parliamentary election

Protests have erupted in Abeka, Accra, following the declaration of Patrick Yaw Boamah as the winner of the 2024 Parliamentary Election for Okaikwei Central.

Disgruntled residents, supporting the NDC candidate Baba Sadiq Abdulai, claim the re-collation process was biased and denied their candidate rightful victory.

The Electoral Commission, under heavy security, conducted the collation as directed by the Accra High Court, which found that some polling station results were excluded in the initial count.

After including the omitted results, Patrick Boamah won with 21,099 votes, while Baba Sadiq secured 19,368 votes.

Protesters, seen burning car tyres, allege electoral irregularities and demand justice, but Boamah remains the declared winner, poised to retain his parliamentary seat.
