The control unit of the Awoshie Mangoase traffic lights has been stolen. This has left the busy intersection without functioning signals for over two years. Residents say this situation endangers lives and creates chaos.
Motorists now drive freely, while pedestrians face a nightmare. Dela Morgan, a Unit Committee Member, spoke about the issue in a video interview. He confirmed that the community has reported the problem to authorities multiple times but received no help.
“We discovered the entire control system was stolen during a clean-up,” he said. “This has been happening for two years. I get calls almost weekly about accidents.” He added that they have held demonstrations, but nothing has changed.
The community faces more than just accident risks. The median, once meant for safety, is now a garbage dump. Piles of refuse clutter the intersection, raising public health concerns.
Residents are urging the Ablekuma North MCE and other authorities to act quickly. They want the traffic lights restored and protection against vandalism and theft.
