Stop the 'judicial coup', reinstate Chief Justice Torkornoo - Minority tells Mahama

The Minority in Parliament has condemned President John Dramani Mahama's decision. They suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, calling it a "judicial coup." They also labeled it a "flagrant abuse of executive power."

At a press conference, Jerry Ahmed Shaib spoke on behalf of the Minority. He is the Weija-Gbewa NPP MP. He stated that this move attacks the independence of Ghana's judiciary.

"This action is nothing less than a judicial coup," he said. The Minority believes the suspension is politically motivated. They think it aims to control the judiciary.

"This unlawful suspension is not about accountability," Jerry Ahmed added. "It is about raw political control."

The Minority demands the immediate reinstatement of the Chief Justice. They want this pending all constitutional challenges by the Supreme Court.

"Any further harassment or intimidation will meet fierce resistance," he warned. He emphasized that public and legal pushback would follow any unlawful actions against her.

"The integrity and independence of Ghana's judiciary are non-negotiable," Shaib stressed.
