Stop unwarranted and arrogant GBA attacks – Miracles tells NDC

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the Director of Communications for the Dr. Bawumia 2024 campaign, criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He called their attacks on the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) disrespectful and unwarranted. This followed the GBA's call to reverse Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo's suspension.

Aboagye spoke on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on April 30. He urged the NDC to show respect toward the GBA, even in disagreement. “The NDC should not speak arrogantly to the GBA,” he said.

He acknowledged that it is okay to disagree with the GBA’s stance. However, he stressed that personal attacks against them are unjustified. “What is their crime?” he asked.

His comments were a response to criticisms from NDC members. Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, the party’s Director of Legal Affairs, accused the GBA of being partisan. The GBA had called President John Dramani Mahama's suspension of Chief Justice Torkornoo unconstitutional.

Aboagye argued that the NDC's reaction shows political bias against the judiciary. “The NDC has a certain hatred for the judiciary,” he stated. He cautioned them against politicizing GBA leadership.

He reminded them that GBA leaders are elected by lawyers nationwide. “Respect them; do not drag down an association because you disagree,” Aboagye concluded.
