Stan Dogbe spoke on behalf of President Mahama during the “Save the Judiciary” demonstration on May 5. He contrasted the current administration with the previous one, subtly criticizing Akufo-Addo's era.
Dogbe received a petition from Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin and his group. He acknowledged the peaceful nature of the demonstration. He emphasized a new era of true democracy under Mahama’s leadership.
“That sends a strong message about democracy,” Dogbe said. He suggested that if this had happened in the past eight years, retaliatory politics would not have occurred.
His comments implied that protests faced resistance under the previous government. He hinted at a more tolerant climate under Mahama’s leadership.
Dogbe stated, “Referencing retaliatory politics admits that Akufo-Addo’s years were not ideal.” He defended Mahama as a unifying figure rather than vindictive.
“President Mahama does not believe in retaliatory politics,” he added. Dogbe described him as a father figure to all presidents.
He also addressed ongoing issues involving the Chief Justice. Dogbe clarified these were not political witch-hunts but constitutional processes initiated by Akufo-Addo.
“Before leaving office, President Akufo-Addo started this process,” he noted. “That is what President Mahama has continued.”
In closing, Dogbe remarked, “In less than 120 days, President Mahama has shown how he will save Ghana's democracy.” This statement questioned the past administration's democratic record and positioned Mahama as a guardian of unity and rule of law.
