Suspects involved in ‘ghost names’ scandal to be charged next week – AG

Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine announced charges against former directors of the National Service Authority (NSA). These charges will be filed in the first week of May 2025. This follows President John Dramani Mahama's directive for a full investigation.

The investigation revealed 81,885 suspected ghost names on the NSA payroll. This anomaly was found during a nationwide headcount of active personnel. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Presidential Spokesperson, confirmed this information.

The audit was commissioned by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson. It aimed to reconcile and clear service allowance arrears from August 2024. The issue first emerged in an investigative report by The Fourth Estate in November 2024.

On March 20, the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) questioned Osei Assibey Antwi, former Executive Director of the NSA. He attended with his lawyer after being invited for questioning.

Dr. Ayine spoke to journalists in Accra on April 30. He stated that investigations into the ghost names scandal are progressing well. Charges will be filed against involved individuals soon.

Additionally, he mentioned other high-profile cases under review. These include the Sky Train project and the National Cathedral case. Dockets are being prepared for prosecution in these matters.

Adu-Boahen’s ‘dubious’ plot cost Ghana $7 million, according to the Attorney General.
