Talensi NDC office set ablaze over DCE nomination

Allegations also linked Naabwomya to Chinese mining interests Allegations also linked Naabwomya to Chinese mining interests

Tensions within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Talensi, Upper East Region, reached a boiling point as the party’s constituency office was set ablaze around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 5.

The arson occurred shortly after John Millim Naabwomya was named the party’s nominee for District Chief Executive (DCE).

His selection has sparked backlash among party supporters, who claim he was imposed due to his ties with the Paramount Chief of Talensi, Tongraan Nanlebegtang Kugbilsong, rather than broad party consensus.

Allegations also linked Naabwomya to Chinese mining interests, raising fears that he may prioritize external businesses over local needs.

A petition opposing his nomination was submitted earlier in January 2025.

While investigations are ongoing, the culprits behind the attack remain unidentified, deepening unrest in the constituency.
