The Telecel Ghana Foundation celebrated Mother’s Day 2025 with a health outreach in Prampram, Greater Accra. They provided life-saving healthcare through their Healthfest and Rural Ultrasound Scan initiatives. The event took place at the Prampram Polyclinic on Friday, May 9th.
Over 1,000 individuals benefited from the initiative. Free ultrasound scans were given to 314 pregnant women. Health screenings were conducted for 423 community members. Additionally, 300 people registered for NHIS.
During Healthfest, attendees were screened for blood pressure and blood glucose levels. They also checked for hepatitis B, typhoid, and malaria. Participants received free medical consultations and treatments from doctors, nurses, and pharmacists on-site.
“Our Connected Health pillar aims to bring quality healthcare to underserved communities,” said Rita Agyeiwaa Rockson, Head of Foundation, Sustainability & External Communications. “This Mother’s Day, we celebrate women by supporting their wellbeing with care.”
The Rural Ultrasound Scan initiative helps improve maternal healthcare access. Many expectant mothers in rural Ghana cannot afford routine scans. This often leads to undiagnosed complications and risks during pregnancy.
By offering these services for free, the Foundation promotes early detection of potential issues. They also empower women with knowledge about their pregnancies. Mothers received welcome packages with essential baby care items to ease their journey into motherhood.
“I heard about the event from my mother,” said Humphrey, a young attendee. “I’ve been screened and diagnosed; I’m finally registering for NHIS.” Another beneficiary, Rebecca Nyame from Tema Community 25, returned for antenatal care after hearing about the event.
“I expected a simple scan but received so much more,” she said. “Telecel Ghana Foundation made me feel seen.” The event included antenatal education sessions on maternal nutrition and self-care practices.
These Mother’s Day interventions show Telecel Ghana Foundation’s commitment to equitable healthcare access in communities.
