Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has criticized National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament for their absence during the Finance Minister’s presentation, accusing them of prioritizing government appointments at the Jubilee House over their legislative duties.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Afenyo-Markin expressed disappointment over what he described as a pattern of NDC MPs attending only ceremonial events while neglecting key parliamentary proceedings.
"Mr Speaker, this morning, they filled the chamber. Now, they are all gone—empty seats. And this is when the Finance Minister is here to lay a paper," he lamented.
He further alleged that the MPs were preoccupied with securing government positions instead of fulfilling their parliamentary responsibilities.
"They’ve left again, going to look for jobs at the Jubilee House. They should be here in Parliament working. Look at the empty seats. You are 38 in number—ceremonial majority, ceremonial majority," he remarked.
Afenyo-Markin stressed that this was not an isolated incident, questioning the commitment of the NDC MPs to governance and accountability.
