Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin gained attention on social media on January 14, 2025, after a dramatic walkout during the vetting of President John Mahama’s ministerial nominees.
The vetting, which began on January 13, included Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, nominated for Finance Minister, and Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, nominated for Attorney-General and Minister of Justice.
Tensions flared during Dr. Ayine’s vetting over a conflict of interest question related to his law firm. Afenyo-Markin protested when Suame MP John Darko pushed the issue further, despite it being addressed.
Accusing the Chairman of bias against NPP members, Afenyo-Markin walked out, sparking a wave of public debate and social media discussions, with mixed reactions to his actions.
