Today marks the deadline for Ken Ofori Atta to meet OSP: Here’s what to expect

Today, June 2, 2025, is the deadline for former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta. The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has asked him to appear.

If he fails to show up, he will be declared wanted. A statement from March 17, 2025, warns that he will be considered a fugitive. The OSP may issue an Interpol Red Notice and start extradition proceedings.

In January 2025, the OSP informed Mr. Ofori-Atta that he was a suspect in five cases. They requested his presence on February 10, 2025.

His lawyers claimed he was abroad indefinitely for medical reasons. They offered to represent him while he was away.

The OSP rejected this claim and demanded a return date by February 10. They warned of legal consequences if he did not comply.

Reports indicate that Mr. Ofori-Atta is struggling with health issues outside Ghana. He has expressed willingness to meet the OSP virtually instead of in person.

His lawyers have communicated his health complications and need for medical procedures to the OSP.

The investigations focus on several key issues:

1. Petroleum and Minerals Revenue Assurance: Contracts between Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

2. Electricity Company Contract Termination: The termination of a contract with Beijing Xiao Cheng Technology (BXC).

3. National Cathedral Project: Procurement procedures and financial transactions related to this project.

4. Ambulance Procurement: A contract with Service Ghana Auto Group Limited for purchasing ambulances.

5. GRA Tax P-Fund Management: Handling and disbursement of funds from the GRA's Tax P-Fund Account.
