Dr. Anthony Aubynn is the CEO of the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation. He also chairs the Ghana Football Association’s Domestic League Committee. He recently spoke about the need for reforms in local football.
On April 28, he appeared on Channel One TV's The Point of View. Dr. Aubynn discussed the current state of the Ghana Premier League. He noted that while it isn't at its lowest, it still needs improvement.
He emphasized enhancing the experience for fans and stakeholders. “If you say all-time low, I will disagree,” he stated. However, he acknowledged that it is not where it should be.
Dr. Aubynn pointed out a major challenge: lack of investment in the league. This has hurt play quality, infrastructure, and fan engagement. Without improvements in these areas, filling stadiums will remain difficult.
He stressed that entertainment and quality are crucial for attracting fans. “When you go and you don’t see that, then it’s a problem,” he said. The focus must be on creating an appealing environment for spectators.
