Unparliamentary conduct: Speaker pledges strict enforcement of rules

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, condemned "unparliamentary conduct" aimed at Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings. She is the Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey in Greater Accra.

During his address to the House, Speaker Bagbin expressed deep disappointment over the incident. He called on all Members of Parliament to show mutual respect and dignity.

“I am very, very disappointed,” he said, visibly upset by what happened. “We cannot allow this kind of behaviour to persist in this House.”

He confirmed that a formal report would be made on the matter. Appropriate sanctions will be pursued against those involved.

“I will go the full length to implement the law,” he warned. This signals his commitment to enforce parliamentary rules without fear or favour.

Speaker Bagbin urged MPs to treat each other with respect and unity. He emphasized that Parliament should model civility and cooperation for the nation.

“Let’s operate as a family,” he added. He encouraged drawing from collective experiences to maintain decorum in the House.
