A statement by Presidential spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu has sparked public uproar after he referred to Nana Akufo-Addo as “President” instead of “former President” while addressing the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) investigation into his official travels.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Presidency has not given any order to the NIB to look into President Akufo-Addo’s travels,” Kwakye Ofosu posted on Facebook.
His remark has fueled speculation, with some critics questioning whether the government is distancing itself from the probe or subtly acknowledging its legitimacy.
Others argue that calling Akufo-Addo “President” undermines protocol, adding a political twist to the unfolding controversy.
The investigation into Akufo-Addo’s foreign trips has drawn mixed reactions, with some seeing it as a necessary step for transparency, while others believe it is politically motivated.
The NIB has yet to clarify whether the probe covers all his travels or specific instances.
